Birchbox Splurge- Sunday Riley

Good Genes

I am one of those people who saves up all of my birchbox points for the year and then splurges at the end. I have had my eye on this Sunday Riley Good Genes for the LONGEST time now but haven’t ever wanted to cough up for the price! I mean hello I just think about all the coffee’s and little loves I could have plus textbooks cost me a small fortune. But during my trip New York in May I stopped into the Birchbox shop in SoHo to peak around and one of the ladies who works there was incredibly kind enough to show me around. I had brought up being interested in Good Genes and she just couldn’t stop raving about it. She actually ended up giving me a sample to try for the remainder of my trip (How nice right!!). Well immediately when I got home from the trip I took the plunge and used all of my banked points to get myself a bottle of this magical potion. That is truly what this product is, a magical potion in the cutest little glass bottle with a perfect gold top. I use it at night and while I am getting my much needed and not enough sleep and Good Genes is plumping my skin, helping to prevent fine lines and wrinkles as well as helping with hyper pigmentation that stubborn breakouts leave behind. Essentially making me feel perfect upon waking up, which who doesn’t want!

I am also one of those people who don’t change my skin care routine too often and when I am find something that works I tend to stick with it. I don’t jump on every new product that comes out (although I wish I could). So 5 months later and two bottle of Good Genes I would say that this is a keeper and the fact that I have repurchased this product means that its GOOD!

I know that the price puts a lot of people off but I would truly recommend going into Sephora or a store near you that carries it and ask for a sample. A little goes a very long way, I should mention the smell may seriously offend some people. From just about everyone that I have seen talk about this HATES and loathes the smell. I personally don’t mind it too much and think it just smells like lemongrass, but hey to each is own!

Hi everyone!!! Hope you all had wonderful weekends!! As sad as I am that the weekend is already over I am super excited to show you some of my recent additions from Sephora. In my normal fashion I am more often then not last to the make up band wagon or cult products that people have been using since forever. I usually learn of them from MY favorite bloggers and youtubers and these are no exception. I have been on the hunt for the perfect bronzer for some time now and just have not been able to find one that I LOVE ( I know the struggles right!) And like everyone else, I have heard so much about the NARS Laguna bronzer and always just tried to find something else because lets be honest; when your a budget conscious college student, paying a lot for make up kind of falls to the waste side and goes to books and tutoring! But this weekend I was able to get some really awesome one on one help with a wonderful girl in Spehora who works for NARS to help me out. Needless to say  I am officially a member of the Laguna bronzer cult club!!! It not too orange like most I try and doesn’t have a glitter bananza going on which always ends up all over my hands, so I just have to say its pretty perfect! I also picked up one of these awesome velvet matte lip pencils in damned which is so unlike me but I just loved the deep purple color and the staying power of these. I became a fan of these of course late when I received my birthday gift from sephora this year which was one matte lip pencil and one glossy one.  All in all I would say it was a very productive and beautifying weekend and I can’t wait to use all my new stuff.

Talk to you all soon!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Ok freak out moment over! As I am sure many of you have seen or heard the newest Naked Palette to join the family is the Naked Smoky Palette from Urban Decay. The Naked Palettes have been a beauty lovers dream and pretty much  cult favorite since their debut and this new one is no exception. I was actually lucky and loved enough to be gifted this palette by my dear cousin who is actually more makeup savvy and obsessed then I am! So I cant even thank her and my family enough for bestowing this greatness upon me!!

So lets get to the palette itself! There are 12 glorious colors included that are sure to give any makeup lover the perfect tools to create as dramatic or demur of a smoky eye as desired. In true form the color payoff on these shadows is truly a dream (Sorry about the award arm swatch!) ! 4 Matte shadows and 8 perfectly shimmering shadows that have the creamiest and dreamiest of formulas and feel like butter going on.I really love the color range of the shadows too, they aren’t just grey/ dark tones that one typically thinks of when they hear a smokey eye; they have warm bronzes and neutral colors as well. They also include a brush to help create the perfect look as well, with one end for the perfect tapered crease and the other is a smudger!

I know I am going to have a lot of fun playing with these colors and look forward to creating my perfect smoky eye!!! But I have to admit smoky eyes are always super intimidating to me so thankfully Urban Decay has included a perfect beauty guide to help me along to creating my perfect look.

I would defiantly give this palette two thumbs up and any of those who are interested in getting I would say GO FOR IT!!!!!! Till next time!

Amika Dry Shampoo

Amika 1

Amika 3

I have found a new dry shampoo to add to my favorites SHOCKING I know! In my October Birchbox I received a mini sample of the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo(isn’t it the cutest!), and I have heard so many wonderful things about it but it is always so hard for me to commit to one without being able to try it. Honestly the second I tried it I was amazed by how well it worked. I have never in all my trials of dry shampoo used something like this. First off it smells like a dream and not an overly perfumed smell just a wonderful fresh and sweet scent. When you spray into your hair it does have a slight white finish like traditional dry shampoos but brushes out very easily, but my favorite part is how it made my hair feel. I often don’t like to touch my hair after using dry shampoos because of the chalky feeling that it leaves my hands but this was so incredibly light and my hair honestly felt as if I had just gotten it done at a salon. It was so silky and soft that I could easily run my fingers through my hair effortlessly. I think I may have found my new number 1 go to guys! The second time I used my sample I ended up ordering two bottles of it from birchbox. I know that if any of you try it you will understand just how unbelievable this stuff is. Any who, I hope you all enjoyed this and I can’t wait to hear from all of you! Talk to you soon!

January Love With Food Box

LWF1

LWF2

LWF3

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be sharing my newest subscription box addiction with you all! This is my first box with Love with Food and I all I can say is that I am blown away! What is it is a monthly box that is packed with goodies for a foodies dream! What I love most is that for every box sent out they donate a meal to a person in need to help end hunger in America. If that doesn’t make it worth it then I don’t know what will! This month was all about food to help you “Live.Laugh.Restore” and these goodies are sure to do that! So far my favorites have been the Kettle cooked apples with raspberries, hibiscus and green coffee extract from Big Slice and the chocolate covered cocoa nibs from Britt. But todays lunch features the in shell almonds and Cassava Pops and needless to say I am counting down the minutes till lunch. I really hope you all enjoyed this little peak into my newest subscription and hope you all check out Love with Food for yourselves!

Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara

Covergirl1

Covergirl2

IMG_3166

Trying new mascaras is always so much fun for me. I do try not to get crazy with it and try to finish one before getting another but you all know how that goes, when you see one that you just have to try its hard not to. Recently I tried the new Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara thanks to my friends at influenster and it has quickly become my go to everyday. If you follow me on instagram you will have seen that I have started my internship and therefore have very little time for me. I try to get the best makeup look I can in as little time as possible and I love how effortless this mascara is on my lashes. This is because of the new petal shaped brush and the moose formal that contains all natural beeswax that leaves my lashes coated but not stiff and brittle. I hate when I put on a mascara and it makes my lashes clumpy and I have to spend so much time combing through it just to make it look decent. Seems counterproductive if you ask me! I am so excited to have found a new favorite to add to my arsenal and with all covergirl products your getting such an awesome quality product that won’t break the bank! If any of you have tried this out or end up getting yourself one let me know how you like it!!! Talk to you all soon!

Hopes for the New Year!

2015

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! Ahhhhh can you even believe that it is 2015, I sure can’t but I know that this year is going to be a rockin one! Since January 1st means a new year is ahead I would love to share some of my hopes for the new year. I don’t like to set resolutions because like many others I feel like I never stick to them! So instead these are some hopes and goals that I will be working toward this year or just enjoying more =)

1. I really want to connect with you all on a more regular basis! I love getting to you know guys and I love writing as well but with school this last year it has been a non stop whirlwind. So I am going to try to dedicate set time each week to connecting and getting my fingers typing to share with all of you!

2. I want to travel more (who doesn’t) but truly there are so many places that I have said that “oh I want to go there one day” and this year I want to travel to at least one new place. Its such a passion of mine seeing and exploring new places and learning that I really want to allow myself to enjoy it! YOLO haha

3. As much of a positive person as I try to be I do have my debbie downer days. So this year I want to replace my negative thoughts with positive ones. And I know that is easier said then done, so what I have done is taken my favorite quotes, sayings and encouraging messages and written down on little sticky notes. I fold them up and put it into my Jar of Positivity an whenever I need one I will reach in and pull out some positivity! Fun right!

4. Lastly I want to be more open to trying new things. Either with beauty, fashion and even food! I feel like a lot of us get into routines of what works or just are too worried about trying something different that we all become stuck (hello I’m guilty of it!). So this year my hope is to every month trying something new and spice up my year.

I hope you all enjoyed those and I would love to hear all of yours! I think we all can inspire and support one another so if you are trying anything new this year reach out and I would love to know! Talk to you all soon and again Happy 2015!!!!

xoxo Val
